Washington Wildcats Apparel

  • All students will receive a new Washington T-Shirt provided by the Belonging Committee and the PTA. This will take a couple of weeks to get sizes and send in the order.
  • Additional gear can be purchased through the Spirit Store, which opens soon! A link will be provided.
  • A quick note on the Spirit Store process -- it is a temporary website that stays open for 3 weeks and then the whole order is shipped to the school at one time to be picked up by individual students. So, if you'd like to purchase from the store (even the long-sleeved, Winter apparel, you should take care of that now).

Updates on Turf / Playground Closure

  • Though some repairs have been made (replacing gravel in tree wells w/ perma bark, fixing localized sections that were peeling) there are still issues with bubbling that are causing further delays.
  • The Boise Schools Facilities team is working with the contractor on this issue.
  • I apologize for these delays, as I know that many families access this option for recreation during the summer.
  • As it stands, the playground will be closed until the first day of school.
  • If we're able to get it open a couple days in advance, I certainly will! I know that some prior-to-school-year playdates can be helpful, especially to new families. I will send a message to everyone if that is the case.

Moment of Silence Legislation

  • As you are likely aware, during the most recent legislative session, the Idaho Legislature passed House Bill 623 (Idaho Code 33-1639), which requires a daily moment of silence in schools.
  • In accordance with Idaho Code 33-1639, all schools are required to provide a brief moment of silence of at least sixty (60) seconds at or near the beginning of each school day.
  • During this time, students must remain silent and may use the moment for individual reflection, meditation, prayer, or another silent activity of their choice, provided it does not interfere with others. In accordance with the law, parents are encouraged to provide guidance to their children on how they may use this time each day.
  • At Washington, this will be included as the last part of the daily announcements, directly after the we say the pledge of allegiance. The script below will be read by Mr. Sup.
  • “At this time, we will observe a moment of silence. The state of Idaho asks that we take this time each day. Please remain seated and quiet for the next 60 seconds. During this time, you may reflect, meditate, pray, or think quietly in a way that is comfortable for you, as long as it does not distract others. We will begin now.” (Pause for 60 seconds. The teacher should remain neutral and not model or signal any specific behavior.) “Thank you. The moment of silence has ended. We will now begin our day.”
