- Our schoolwide teaching and learning vision is to increase instructional experiences in which students are driving their own learning. This instructional style is often labeled, "student-centered." While direct instruction (teacher-centered) is an integral part of a student's day, we believe that students should also be given ample time and opportunity for metacognition, taking the lead in identifying their own needs, and for engaging in deliberation amongst themselves.
This looks like:
- Students setting goals for themselves.
- Students seeking feedback from others.
- Students teaching others and learning from the teaching of other students.
- Students being inspired to learn more about a topic or pursue an interest on their own.
